Breaking out of our daily routines is the clearest path to inspiration. I always remind myself of the work of the artist Bas Jan Ader: A Dutchman who would ride his bicycle into Amsterdam canals and leap out of trees or off of rooftops. He was always aware of his artistic intentions, with his perfectly composed videography and photography of the events, clearly searching for that moment between “should I” and “I did.”
In early years, I had a similar approach to life and art, while now I find the greatest inspirations while operating outside of my routine, discovering undiscovered elements of old haunts, looking not watching, and jumping into new adventures.
