The piece portrays an imagery that is both familiar and surreal. The focal point of the work is a “droid/coffee press” at the center of the work, this is where the rest of the piece unfolds from. The directional orientation of the work is from the lower left to the upper right of the illustration: the eye moves back and forth across this axis, with the figure of droid becoming the centering element of the narrative. The piece works primarily around the duo-tones of reds and violets with secondary hues of yellows and oranges. A build-up of washes of varying saturation create different textures of each object, which are meant to be experienced as uniquely surfaced items, not as continuous plastic objects. The intent of the piece is to create a nostalgia for science fiction narratives that certain generations will easily remember, while also infusing elements of the artists nostalgia for aspects of his own craft and career; the piece is meant to be both autobiographical and emotional to the viewer.
