The piece targets the mundane as its point of departure: taking a dead corner of the room and making it the focal point of the image. I’m also looking for nuanced moments in what might otherwise read as “boring”: the reflections of light off tile, refraction of light on the lowly plastic pin, the neatly organized piping that is the oft unseen. I also avoid what might be read as “art making” space; the purpose of the room is hidden from the viewer, even the pinup board with its note to students has been subverted, with new words. The layout is meant to further disorient the viewer from the whole, and the space, but at the same time carry the narrative of the darting eye, ever moving, searching for meaning.
